William McCann

President

Australian FPV Drone Racing Association

William McCann is the current President of the Australian FPV Drone Racing Association and also serves as President of both the Canberra Multirotor Racing Club and the Veteran Drone Racing Association. He leads an after-school Drone Racing Academy, where he teaches students of all ages the art and science of drone racing while fostering engagement in STEM disciplines that complement the sport. In addition to his leadership and educational roles, William is deeply involved in drone racing media, acting as the lead commentator for major national events, including the Australian Drone Nationals, the Avalon Airshow, and the online DSpec HYPER series. Competing under the callsign “BEAR,” William is an accomplished drone racer with multiple series victories, including being the Canberra Club Champion for the past two years. He is passionate about advancing the use of Small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) in both sporting and industrial contexts and is committed to building grassroots initiatives that strengthen capability development and the broader drone industry within Australia. Outside of Drone Racing, William is an Army Veteran having served 13 years in the Royal Australian Corp of Signals. He currently works in Cyber Security and is married with two children who also love to share in his passion for drones.
