Aaron McFadyen

Associate Professor

QUT

Dr. Aaron McFadyen is an Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering and Robotics at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), specializing in aerospace and autonomous systems. With a background in professional aerospace engineering and formal research training, Aaron is dedicated to solving key challenges in drone traffic management, airspace integration, and autonomous flight. His research in air traffic modelling, multi-agent control, and quantitative risk analysis has led to practical innovations, including digital facility maps used in Australia’s Automated Airport Authorization trials developed in collaboration with Airservices and CASA. Aaron has consulted for aviation authorities, contributed to global policy discussions (JARUS, ICAO), and played a pivotal role in advancing RPAS integration into airspace. His contributions have been recognised through ATSE Batterham Medal (2022), UK Airwards (2022), AAUS Industry Awards (2023) and an Australian Museum Eureka Award (2024).
