SkyTech 2025 Speaker Bio | BRIG Steven Cleggett Director General Army Aviation Systems BRIG Cleggett completed his officer training at the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Royal Military College in 2002, and was allocated to the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. As a Staff Officer, BRIG Cleggett has completed postings as Military Assistant to the Special Operations Commander – Australia, and S4 / Brigade Aviation Maintenance Officer within Headquarters 16 Aviation Brigade. The latter saw BRIG Cleggett responsible for implementation of Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (PART 145) across Army’s aviation helicopter fleets. In 2019, BRIG Cleggett was selected as the Military Assistant to the Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO. On return to the Aviation Capability, BRIG Cleggett served as the Director of Continuing Airworthiness for Army, a role which saw him managing a range of complex airworthiness requirements, including resolution of deficiencies which led to cessation of flight operations for the Army and Navy MRH90 Taipan fleet. In 2022, BRIG Cleggett was posted as the Director of the Cargo Helicopter and Uncrewed Surveillance Program Office which is responsible for both acquisition and sustainment of Army CH-47 Chinooks and ADF Tactical, Small, Multi-Rotor and Nano Uncrewed Aerial Systems. With effect 06 September 2024, BRIG Cleggett was appointed the Director General Army Aviation Systems, and promoted to Brigadier on 19 November 2024. BRIG Cleggett is a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College, and has completed a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering, a Master of Business Administration (Technology), and Master of Military and Defence Studies.
