The Australian Government has released the Drone Security Public Consultation Paper 2026, and we encourage all AAUS members to provide input to help shape Australia’s future approach to drone and uncrewed systems security.
The consultation outlines potential areas of policy development aimed at strengthening Australia’s security response to drone operations, while continuing to support their safe, lawful and responsible use across aviation, maritime and other operating environments.
Why your input matters
Industry expertise and operational experience are critical to ensuring that future policy and regulatory frameworks are effective, proportionate and practical. This consultation will directly inform the development of policies and rules designed to:
- Keep people and critical infrastructure safe
- Protect industry and national security interests
- Support innovation and the continued growth of the uncrewed systems sector
- Enable and enhance counter-drone responses
Consultation details
AAUS will also be preparing a submission on behalf of its members. If you would like your views to be considered as part of this process, please feel free to share your input with us or engage directly with the consultation.
This is an important opportunity to ensure that Australia’s approach to drone security reflects real-world operational considerations while supporting a strong, innovative and trusted uncrewed systems sector.
