UAS Scholarship Winner Profiles 2026

Airservices Australia in partnership with the Australian Association for Uncrewed Systems (AAUS) is providing a scholarship fund to support Australia's rapidly growing uncrewed industry. The purpose of the UAS Industry Scholarships is to foster greater participation and diversity of participants in the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) industry.

The scholarship will be used to pay for costs of training and related activities undertaken by individuals to promote the benefits and generate interest in entering the UAS industry, or to gain additional qualifications or experience in the UAS industry, with a focus on increasing the diversity of those seeking to enter the UAS industry.




2026 Scholarship Winner Profile - Jonathon Wong

Jonathon completed his Remote Pilots License with FPV Australia. 

"Completing the Remote Pilot Licence training has given me the ability to take on a wider range of work opportunities, particularly those involving drone operations. It also opens the door to work that combines a career with something I genuinely enjoy. Although I may not use the qualification every day, it allows me to carry out tasks such as aerial inspections, and other drone-related work when required. Overall, the training has helped grow my capabilities and improved my understanding of aviation safety and regulations and given me a better understanding of how drones operate mechanically. I now have a valuable qualification that may create more opportunities for me in the future and gives me the confidence to incorporate my passion for drones into my future".

Now that he has completed his training, Jonathon intends to keep practicing his drone flying skills and "maybe try some drone photography". 



2026 Scholarship Winner Profile - Lobo Family

Nigel completed his scholarship alongside his family. They all completed the AROC and RePL < 25 kg courses with iDrone Train.

A proud Indigenous Australian, veteran and former Royal Australian Army manned pilot with 25 years of service, Nigel applied for the scholarship with a vision of creating opportunities for Indigenous communities, veterans and young people through drone technology.

The training has provided a valuable foundation for their future plans, which include delivering drone education and mentoring programs, as well as developing drone-based services such as drone washing and agricultural spraying. Nigel hopes to use the skills gained through the scholarship to inspire the next generation and increase awareness of the many opportunities available within the drone industry.
