CASA Project AS 16/06 – Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) equipment suitable for voluntary fitment and use in aircraft operated in accordance with the Visual Flight Rules (VFR)

In March 2020, The Australian Association for Unmanned Systems (AAUS) made a submission to CASA Project AS16/06 supporting low cost options for VFR Aircraft permitting the use of lower cost ADS-B equipment that could, on a voluntary basis, be used in VFR aircraft – primarily to enhance situation awareness and therefore improve flight safety.

This month, CASA has announced that from 16 July VFR aircraft will be able to choose from a broader range of ADS-B systems on the market.
